Simple Machines— Student Laboratory Kit
Comprehensive laboratory kit allows students to experiment with four types of simple machines—the inclined plane, pulley, gears and levers—and study the advantages of each. Students learn about gear ratios, levers (first-, second- and third-class), pulley combinations and the mechanical advantage of each simple machine. By comparing the mechanical advantage of different simple machines, students determine which setup provides the most benefits. The lab stations are easy to set up, and student groups rotate through each lab station, experimenting with one simple machine at a time.

Velocity Speed Gun, Digital
Quickly record speed to study motion, velocity, acceleration and much more! This affordable and rugged radar gun uses digital technology and signal processing to record speeds with a ±1 mph accuracy. Values are easy-to-read on a large LCD display. Measure speeds for small objects and people from up to 90 feet away and vehicles from 1,300 feet. A useful addition to your physics equipment!

Science of Sailing—Newton’s Third Law Laboratory Kit
Ever wonder how a sailboat travels into the wind? Investigate the science behind this remarkable feat by building and experi- menting with a basic sail car. During their experiments, students discover the advan- tages and disadvantages of both triangular and square sails—only one will provide forward motion into the wind. An educa- tional way to learn the basics of sailing without getting your feet wet! Complete for eight student groups. All materials are reusable.

Second Law of Motion Apparatus
An ingenious and entertaining way to demonstrate Newton’s second law of motion. Have students predict which ball will hit the floor first. Then have them close their eyes and listen. Much to their surprise, both balls hit the floor at precisely the same instant! This is amazing since one ball falls straight down while the other is propelled horizontally first.

Newton’s Laws— Activity-Stations Kit
In this activity-stations lab, students inves- tigate inertia, force and acceleration using air pucks, carts and pulleys with hanging weights and balloon rockets, respectively. Each independent mini-lab activity takes 10–15 minutes to complete, and students may rotate through the stations in any order.
AP7408 I $91.35
DC Motor
Just add 1.5–6.0 volts of power and watch this efficient little motor “hum” at 7,000– 11,000 rpm. Includes connecting wires with alligator clips. Optimum performance with 3.0–4.5 V.
AP6041 I $3.10
Simple Motor
The world’s simplest motor! Demonstrate the basic principles of electromagnetism with a bit of wire, a magnet, a metal support stand and a battery.
