CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENTS, CONTINUED
The Yellow and Blue Switcheroo— Chemical Demonstration Kit
Three colorless solutions are mixed to produce a yellow solution, then suddenly the solution turns blue, then yellow again, etc. The solution will oscillate between yellow and blue for ten minutes. If you’ve never seen or done an oscillating clock reac- tion, don’t pass this one up!
AP8660 I $29.55
Identifying Chemical Reactions—
Collection of five demonstrations showcas- ing chemical reaction types:
• Combination: Adding water to calcium oxide produces calcium hydroxide, along with enough heat to fry an egg!
• Decomposition: Observe a rainbow of color changes as water molecules split apart.
• Single Replacement: Aluminum dissolves and copper metal precipitates when aluminum foil is placed in a solution of copper(II) chloride.
• Double Replacement: Mixing copper(II) chloride and sodium phosphate produces a beautiful green precipitate.
• Combustion: Add a little isopropyl alcohol to a 2-L soda bottle, ignite the vapors and “whoosh”!
Enough materials are provided to perform each demonstration seven times.
What Is a Chemical Reaction?— Student Laboratory Kit
How can students identify a chemical change? In this microscale experiment, students study the properties of hydrochlo- ric acid and copper(II) chloride with a variety of substances to observe and identify signs of chemical change. Includes reproducible student handouts, detailed background information, complete Teacher Notes with sample data and answers to questions and all necessary chemicals and consumable supplies.
AP6269 I $44.60
A Reaction in a Bag Chemical Demonstration Kit
Students develop their observational and scientific reasoning skills in this teacher-led, inquiry-based demonstration. When three substances are mixed, a series of chemi-
cal and physical changes occur. Students design controlled experiments to identify the substances responsible for the observed changes. The teacher performs additional demonstrations based on the student obser- vations. Enough materials are provided to perform the demonstration seven times.

The Crystal Forest— Super Value Kit
A new twist on crystal growing! In this activity, students cut out and assemble miniature paper trees. The trees are placed in a solution of Prussian blue, sodium chlo- ride and ammonia. Overnight the trees become “snow-covered” in a thick, delicate envelope of salt crystals. Super Value Kit is complete for 5 classes of 30 students.
AP6308 I $87.00
Balancing Equations— Super Value Kit
Use this hands-on kit to make the abstract concept of atoms become more visual and real for students. Students count and manip- ulate the “atom” chips until all atoms in the equation are conserved and then write the final equation on the provided data sheets. All materials are reusable.
