Product Details

Add insight to students’ understanding of the role of clinical lab tests in diagnosing diseases! A hemocytometer is an instrument used in medical settings to manually count cells. In this experiment, students use hemocytometers to count red blood cells (RBCs) in a simulated blood sample. Each hemocytometer has two chambers with one counting grid per chamber. Simulated blood cells are counted under a microscope and the concentration of RBCs per cubic centimeter of blood is calculated to determine the blood count. Students learn about normal RBC counts and the types of diseases that are indicated when the counts are high or low. Kit contains 10 disposable hemocytometers and materials and instructions to prepare more than 1 L of simulated blood.

Complete for 30 students working in groups of three.
