With this FlinnEverydayScience™ lab, measure the density of various metals and then analyze the results to select an appropriate metal for a medical device application.
This item can only be shipped to schools, museums and science centers
Students learn about the physical property of matter known as density, and how to measure the density of solid materials in the laboratory. Then, they apply this knowledge to determine the density of various unknown metal samples. Based on their experimental results, students determine the identity of each metal sample, and select the metal sample with the appropriate density that could be used in the manufacturing of metallic orthopedic implants.
Includes access to pre-lab videos, editable lab instructions, downloadable student handouts, detailed background information, safety information, teacher notes with answers to all questions and sample data, and teaching and lab tips.
