Charles Darwin's idea of natural selection revolutionized how the world thought about life. The way he arrived at his idea is a classic example of how scientists work.

He developed his idea by studying what other scientists had done and through his own travels and research. He published his theory jointly with Alfred Russell Wallace. Our Evolution by Natural Selection model making kit, shows how a combination of evidence from living and fossil creatures and geology inspired his idea.

First, your students assemble their model of a Glyptodon, an Ichthyosaur, an armadillo, mockingbirds, Darwin's finches, the Galapagos Islands, HMS Beagle and the place where modern geology was born, Siccar Point. They then use these models to demonstrate how these helped Darwin arrive at his revolutionary theory. The work of Wallace, Mary Anning, James Hutton, Charles Lyell is also covered.

The Model Making Kit includes enough materials for students to assemble up to 5 paper models working cooperatively. The comprehensive Teacher Resource Guide included provides illustrated readings, activities, key vocabulary and an assessment, along with teaching opportunities for students to Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend and Evaluate their understanding of the concepts presented.
