The Photon Solar Racer can be built in one class period and raced in another. All that is required for assembly is scissors and a small screwdriver. The model will achieve very fast speeds in bright sunlight. Students will be amazed at the sensitivity of the car speed with slight variations in the amount of sunlight. After building the initial model, the key solar/mechanical components can be used to power other cars of student design. Races comparing cars of various chassis designs will create a lot of enthusiastic car designers.
