Safety:
Remind students that hexane is a flammable organic solvent and a dangerous fire risk. This compound should be kept away from flames, heat, and other sources of ignition. Students should cap the solvent bottles and work with hexane in a fume hood or designated work area. Graphite powder is a fire and inhalation risk. Students should avoid contact of all chemicals with eyes and skin. Students should wear chemical splash goggles, chemical-resistant gloves, and a chemical-resistant apron. Students should wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before leaving the lab. Remind students that laboratory safety guidelines should be followed at all times.
