Watch your students be the chemists as they make their very own alloy in lab! In this challenge, students follow a simple guided procedure to turn a penny silver, then they must work together to determine how to turn it into an alloy—resulting in a gold color. A detailed homework assignment is completed before wet lab day where students gain the necessary knowledge to uncover the identity of their alloy and the type of alloy made—interstitial or substitutional. This a simple, fun investigation your students are sure to remember!

Complete for 24 students working in pairs.
