Students love the Stop-’N-Go Light Oxidation–Reduction Chemical Demonstration Kit because they can make the reaction occur by shaking the flask of solution. The solution color turns from yellow to red to green and then back to yellow.
When you shake this flask of solution, the color of the solution will turn from a soft yellow to a bright red to a light, grassy green and then shift back to yellow again. Your students will love this reaction because they can help shake the flask and actually make the reaction take place. If the reaction stops, remove the stopper from the flask, allowing air to enter, and the reaction will start up again. Teacher Demonstration Notes included.
Concepts: Oxidation–reduction, indicators, kinetics. Time Required: 15–20 minutes Chemicals Provided: Dextrose solution, sodium hydroxide solution and indigo carmine.
