Are volatile, flammable liquid vapors heavier than air? Safely demonstrate to students that using flammable liquids indoors can create a fire hazard—even if you are quite far from an open flame. In this impressive demonstration, hexane vapors are poured down an aluminum vapor ramp toward a lit candle. When the vapor reaches the flame, all three necessary ingredients for a fire are present—oxygen, hexane fuel and a source of ignition. The flame travels back up the ramp leaving an impressive trail of fire as it goes. A very safe demonstration illustrating organic vapor flammability.
