Product Details

Vividly demonstrate to your students the thermal energy content and potential skin burning hazards associated with steam. Steam is channeled through a copper coil heated by a Meker burner flame, which raises the temperature of the steam well above 100 ºC. Place a piece of paper in the exhaust steam and watch as it chars. Hold a match head in the exhaust—it will ignite! Detailed Teacher Demonstration Notes included.

Concepts: Phase changes, heat released by condensation, steam.
Time Required: 15 minutes
Note: A Meker burner, 250-mL Erlenmeyer flask, hot plate, and support stand and clamp are needed for this demonstration and available separately.
