Product Details

Fiber optic material that seems to glow on its own! It glows non-stop. You can’t turn it off. Place your fingers over both ends, and it will shine on your fingers! How does this “light pipe” work? The construction of the fiber is based on the refractive index of the material composing each of three layers that make up the strand. The inner core material has the highest refractive index, ensuring internal reflection so the light is “trapped” inside and travels the full length of the fiber before escaping. You’ll have fun with this simple item. Includes a 30" length of the fiber—enough to cut for student experimentation. Includes teaching suggestions and explanations.
