Product Details

A new twist on crystal growing! In this activity, students cut out and assemble miniature paper trees. The trees are placed in a solution of Prussian blue, sodium chloride and ammonia. Overnight the trees become “snow-covered” in a thick, delicate envelope of salt crystals. This beautiful white forest is sure to be a classroom favorite. Includes detailed instructions and a reproducible student worksheet.

The Student Laboratory Kit is complete for 30 students, each making one tree. The Super Value Kit is complete for 5 classes of 30 students to each make one tree (150 trees).

MS-PS1-2: Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.
HS-PS1-1: Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
