Product Details

Discover the most important lessons of the periodic table with this collection of four lab and learning activities—two experiments, one demonstration and a POGIL™ activity.
• The Periodic Activity of Metals demonstration is the perfect opening number! Your students will instantly recognize a key periodic trend in the exciting reactions of alkali and alkaline earth metals.
• Follow up with It’s In the Cards, an inquiry-based lab activity. Students discover the nature of the periodic law as they arrange a special deck of element cards.
• Reinforce key principles and concepts with the Periodic Trends and the Properties of Elements, a microscale experiment. Students identify periodic trends in the reactivity and solubility of alkaline earth metals.
• Cracking the Periodic Table Code POGIL activity brings your lessons full circle as students connect the properties of elements with their electron configuration.

The package includes chemicals and specialty equipment to perform the lab and learning activities listed below. Quantities of chemicals are sufficient for three classes of 30 students working in pairs. Instructions for all activities may be found in The Periodic Table, Volume 4 in the Flinn ChemTopic™ Labs series, which is included in the package. Common laboratory equipment is required and available separately.
