Product Details

Everything you need to teach chemical reactions! You get one great experiment, three terrific demonstrations and a POGIL™ activity. Chemical reactions are the lifeblood of chemistry, and developing students’ chemical literacy skills is fundamental to ensuring their success.
• The Foiled Again! demonstration of aluminum foil with copper(II) chloride offers the perfect starting point—observations are clues for students to predict products.
• Use the Classifying Chemical Reactions experiment to help students makes sense of the great variety of chemical reactions. Students perform eight chemical reactions, identify patterns and classify the reactions.
• Reinforce the reasoning and analysis for classifying reactions with Types of Chemical Reactions, a great POGIL activity.
• Two demonstrations let you add lots of WOW to this unit. Chemical reactions are dynamic and exciting, not just formulas on a piece of paper! The Chef demonstration of calcium oxide with water generates enough heat to fry an egg, and the Old Foamey decomposition of hydrogen peroxide needs no introduction. The cascade of steaming foam provides the perfect capstone for your curriculum unit on chemical reactions!

The package includes chemicals and specialty equipment to perform the lab and learning activities listed below. Quantities of chemicals are sufficient for three classes of 30 students working in pairs! Instructions for all lab activities may be found in Chemical Reactions, Volume 6 in the Flinn ChemTopic™ Labs series, which is included in the package. Common laboratory equipment is required and available separately.

  • Foiled Again—Single Replacement Reaction (Demonstration)
  • Classifying Chemical Reactions—Analyzing and Predicting Products (Experiment)
  • Types of Chemical Reactions (POGIL Activity)
  • The Chef—A Chemical Reaction that Really Cooks (Demonstration)
  • Old Foamey—Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide (Demonstration)
