Anyone who has spent any time at the local pool has one “burning” question—“Just how much chlorine was added to this pool?” Swimming pool chemistry involves a rich variety of chemical concepts and practical applications. In this two-part experiment, students first perform microscale titrations to determine the free chlorine concentration in simulated swimming pool water. They then repeat the tests to analyze the change in chlorine levels when urea is added to the pool water. A terrific kit for showing the importance of chemical reactions in daily life!
