Product Details

Put a spin on egg decorating this year—add sparkling crystals! You’ll find everything you need to introduce crystallization and mineral formation with this unique and fun laboratory kit. Students apply the concept of solubility to create a supersaturated “growing solution.” After the eggs are coated with seed crystals, they are placed into a solution and left to sit overnight. Students will be amazed to find their eggs covered in beautiful crystals the very next day! After examining the crystals, students compare their egg geodes to how real geodes form in nature—a great multidisciplinary learning experience! Complete for 30 students working in pairs.

Performance Expectations

MS-PS1-2. Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.
HS-PS1-2. Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties.
