This vehicle is perfect for the study of Newton’s three laws of motion. Apply a one-time force to the hovercraft and then measure the time and distance of travel to verify constant velocity. Similarly, apply a constant force to the hovercraft to show accelerated motion. Newton’s third law of motion is easily demonstrated by throwing a basketball while sitting on the motionless hovercraft.
The hovercraft is 40 inches in diameter with a soft plastic edging. Air is forced through the rubber coupling on top into the 6-mil plastic skirting underneath. As the skirting inflates, the air escapes through the circular holes near the center of the craft. This air provides frictionless lift to the hovercraft. The rubber coupling has a flexible 2-inch opening, which will accommodate most cordless and corded leaf blowers.
