A properly functioning heart is essential to good health. But how is the heart’s function evaluated? One method is with the use of electrocardiograms (ECG). Learn how to read an ECG and correlate the steps involved in a normal heart rhythm with electrical signals recorded on an ECG. In this activity, students take on the role of cardiologists as they review four case studies to determine the heart rate and analyze other characteristic patterns. The patterns are then used to identify how the electrical signal corresponds to the mechanical action of the heart and to determine if any irregularities are present.This completely reusable kit comes with enough materials for 30 students working in pairs. Reproducible student worksheet includes thought-provoking questions and detailed answers in the Teacher Notes.
