Chemical Disposal
The EPA identifies four general characteristics of hazardous waste under the resource conservation and recovery act, or RCRA. These are corrosivity, ignitability, reactivity and toxicity. Each of these characteristics are defined using common general chemistry concepts, such as pH and reactivity. The connections between pH and reactivity can be made for your students in lectures or pre-lab discussions to prepare them for academic and industry careers, particularly in the field of industrial hygiene.
