We Didn’t Know About It Yesterday!
We have added the hazard alert about the peroxidizable character of some alcohols, such as 2-octanol, to our chemical listings. This development may not be new; however, one of the many benefits of the Flinn Scientific Catalog/Reference Manual is that it keeps faculty up-to-date. What does your low-bid chemical supplier do to help you?

  No Food in the Laboratory
There may be many food-grade items among the laboratory chemicals on the shelves in the chemical storeroom. Sugar, corn syrup and lemon juice are just a few examples. Each time one of these substances is used in the laboratory, take that occasion to reinforce the fact that in the lab setting, it is a chemical. Food is never consumed in a laboratory. Is it time to say good-bye to the coffee pot in the lab? You set the example!
