Autoclave Support Base
Support base will raise the electrically heated autoclave (AP1004) above your laboratory bench top so that no damage is done to the bench top. Made of heavy cast aluminum, this valuable safety device allows air to circulate freely under the very hot appliance.
Bacterial Strips for Autoclave Verification
Monitor your autoclave’s performance using bacterial strips! Indicators consist of Bacillus stearothermophilus spores saturated on paper strips, individually placed into envelopes. B. stearothermophilus is a highly resistant, thermophilic species that can grow at temperatures 65 °C and above. To verify autoclave performance, simply place indicators in the autoclave so that they are exposed to the steam. After the cycle is complete, inoculate the strip in tube of broth and incubate at 55– 60 oC for at least 48 hours. If no growth occurs, you can rest assured your autoclave is functioning properly!
Indicator Tape
Indicator tape for sterilization. Tape indicates through striations when the sterilization process is complete. 3⁄4" x 165'.

    Use an Autoclave Safely
• Never autoclave a closed container.
• Glassware must be free of scratches, chips, breaks and cracks.
• Use only autoclavable plastic (e.g., polymethylpentene, poly-
propylene, PTFE).
• Containers should not be more than half full.
• Do not allow the pressure to exceed 20 psi.
• Pressure should be at zero and the control valve open before
loosening the cover wing nuts.
• Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and maintenance recommendations.
• When autoclaving liquids, release the pressure slowly; use slow exhaust to prevent liquid boil-over.
