Cut and Fire Polish Glass Tubing
Wear eye protection.
Score the glass tubing with a trian-
gular file.
To protect your hands, wrap a cloth around the glass tubing. Place your thumbs opposite the scratch.
Apply pressure with your thumbs and, with a quick motion, snap the tubing away from you.
Rotate the tubing in a laboratory burner flame until the edges are smooth and rounded.
Scratch
Sharp Edge Smooth Edge
Heated Too Much
Fire polishing glass tubing can eliminate sharp edges. Soft glass (not borosilicate) tubing will easily fire polish. Borosilicate glass tubing will require the hottest possible flame.
