UV-VIS Spectrophotometer
Accurately measure the absorbance spectra of various chemical and biochemical compounds with this ultraviolet and visible light spec- trophotometer. Portable unit allows for accurate results in both the laboratory and field. Includes two quartz cuvets, an AC power supply and a USB cable for charging. An optional optical fiber accessory is available separately and can be attached to the spectrophotometer for emission spectrum experiments.
Specifications:
• Deuterium (UV) and incandescent (VIS) light sources • Wavelength range: 220–850 nm
• Optical resolution: 3.0 nm
• Wavelength accuracy: ±2.0 nm
• Photometric accuracy: ±5.0%
• Typical scan time: ~2 seconds
• Operating temperature: 15–35 °C
LabQuestTM 2 interface or Logger Pro 3 software are required and available separately. Replacement cuvets are also available.
Vernier Mini GCTM Plus
The perfect instrument for separating, analyzing and identifying substances contained in a volatile liquid or gaseous sample. Accurate detection between families of compounds, including alcohols, alde- hydes, esters, nitriles, aromatic hydrocarbons and carboxylic acids provides seamless sample identification. Includes two operating levels of sensitivity and a patented MEMS chip sensor that allows for room air to be used as a carrier gas. Temperature range is 30–160 °C, with addi- tional flexibility to design temperature profiles. Features also include pressure controls, injection port, a sensor for detecting the arrival of compounds and a capillary column through which different substances can pass at different rates. Connects to LabQuest 2 or USB port on a computer.
LoggerPro 3 software and LabQuest 2 available separately.
Polarimeter
Measure the rotation of plane-polarized light caused by an optically active substance. Specially designed polarimeter can be used to determine the distinctive properties of a sample without chemically modifying or destroying it. A 589-nm LED and manually rotated polar- izer detect changes in rotation of plane-polarized light in the presence of an optically active compound. A graph is then produced to show the change in the light’s polarization with respect to the angle. This infor- mation allows the user to determine various characteristics, including the identity of the specific chemical compound being investigated.
Structures and Materials Tester
The perfect device for all project-based STEM and engineering proj- ects! Use with any engineering design method to design, build and test structures, investigate beam designs, and conduct bridge competitions. Load and displacement sensors allow students to evaluate properties of materials, including stress and strain. Equipped with load cells and a displacement sensor, the tester can record maximum breaking loads, as well as load displacement. Top support beams are designed to easily slide and lock into place. Includes a Tackle Kit that contains different sized aluminum plates, chains, rods, U-bolts and other accessories to make it quick and easy to build structures of varying sizes and shapes.
