Teach meiosis terminology using this simple hands-on simulation kit. Students string alleles (pony beads) onto chromosomes (chenille wires) and mark the beads to create a unique gene sequence. Then, students crossover sections of the chromosome and complete the phases of meio- sis. The student handout includes detailed information about meiosis with simple step-by-step instructions to facilitate true understanding of this complex biological process.
Super Value Kit is complete for 15 student groups. All materials are reusable.

Make meiosis memorable using large-scale magnets! Instead of strug- gling to tell which chromosome is which from one stage to the next, magnetic chromosomes allow students to clearly see how each chromo- some moves and changes. Follow the magnetic chromosomes through meiosis I and II as they cross over, separate homologous pairs, and form two haploid daughter cells. Includes useful background information, teaching tips, and a reproducible student worksheet. Materials can be reused many, many times!
Concepts: Meiosis homologous chromosomes, crossing over.
Time Required: One class period
Materials Provided: Centromere magnets, blue round magnets, and red round magnets.

Each cell contains detailed graphics depicting the major events that occur in each meiotic phase leading up to the formation of gametes.
