Radial Chromatography T-Shirts— The Experiment You Can Wear! Student Laboratory Kit

Similar to our radial chromatography kit (Catalog No. AP8687), but using a technique that runs the chromatograms directly on T-shirts.* The process is fast, easy and safe, and it produces beautiful explosions of color. Includes a full spectrum of colorful markers, solvent, applicators, chromatography frame and a practice T-shirt. To reduce fading, wash the shirts in cold water on a gentle cycle.
With students bringing in their own prewashed white T-shirts, the kit should be enough for 30–40 completed masterpieces.
*NOTE: The chromatograms produced in T-shirt radial chromatography do not have separations as distinct as in paper radial chromatography. This is due to the fast rate at which the T-shirt chromatograms are run.

Separate different colored dyes found in grape Kool-Aid® using chro- matography methods that mimic popular methods used in research and industry. Students will be amazed as grape Kool-Aid goes through a column and comes out clear. The amazement will continue as varying concentrations of isopropyl alcohol are run through the column, resulting in first red, then a blue solution exiting the cartridge. A simple yet excit- ing demonstration displaying the concepts of column chromatography. Concepts: Column chromatography, polar/non-polar interactions. Time Required: 15 minutes
Materials Provided: Sep-Pak® C18 cartridge, grape Kool-Aid, isopro- pyl alcohol, syringe, and 6-well microplate.
