Your Safer Source for Science
ELECTROCHEMISTRY, continued
Demonstrate simple electrolysis in a very colorful and dramatic way on your overhead projector. A 9-V battery supplies the power and universal indicator provides the color show. As electrolysis occurs in the Petri dish, the pH changes at the anode and cathode are different—immediately purple around the cathode as hydrogen gas bubbles form and gradually orange/red at the anode as oxygen is produced. Across the entire Petri dish the entire spectrum of universal color changes occur, reflecting the pH continuum created in the Petri dish. Teacher Demonstration Notes are included.

Stop-’N-Go-Light—Chemical Demonstration Kit
When you shake this flask of solution, the color of the solution will turn from a soft yellow to a bright red to a light, grassy green and then shift back to yellow again. Your students will love this reaction because they can help shake the flask and actually make the reaction take place. Teacher Notes included.

Make a Printed Circuit Board—Student Laboratory Kit
With this kit, students can use photo engraving and chemical etching to generate their own printed circuit boards while learning valuable chemical concepts. The copper boards are coated with a positive photo-resist, which becomes soluble in basic solutions following exposure to light. Exposed copper is then removed through a redox reaction with iron(III) chloride. Complete for 24 students working in groups of three.
