Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the change to PAVO benefit me?
A: We’ve worked with educators just like you to develop the best all-in-one platform for school district science programs. Here are some of the new features automatically included in the upgrade to PAVO:

  • All classroom management and reporting features were upgraded to PAVO to provide more features for teachers to use. All digital platforms are now in one location with a Single Sign On (SSO) vs. having to log into multiple platforms with full LTI (Learning Management System Integration) and Google classroom compatibility.
  • Feedback received from customers over the years has been that the key codes were hard to manage, so no more key codes and student linking codes
  • The biggest benefit to teachers will be the ability to add students once and then use the planner to assign content across all the platforms. The multiple classrooms set up was a challenge for them the more products they added.
  • An updated dashboard with easy access to all your classrooms and visibility to what’s coming up in your classes, what’s submitted by your students and what’s late.
  • Easy access to your multi-level analytics reporting that shows student progress.
  • Improved catalog search that stretches across our entire suite of hands-on labs, allowing you to find the perfect lab for any class.
  • Direct links to our suite of safety classes and resources

Q: I purchased a Flinn lab kit to use this year and was given access to PAVO. What does PAVO do for me?
A: With PAVO, you can now use our platform to digitally access your classic lab kit documents! PAVO will give you the ability to edit and save your lab instructions. Go to the My Labs tab and select FLINNlabs. Click on the card and hit “access content” to get your instructions.

Q: I logged onto my FLINNprep, Science2Go or 360Science program and now I can’t find anything! What do I do?
A: Getting started with PAVO is easy, but it does require you to follow a few steps. We have developed documents to walk you through. To get you started quickly, click on the getting started category that best describes your needs for the 2021-2022 School year:

Classroom Set-Up and CVS Files

Q: PAVO Requires a CSV file—what is that and how can I create one?
A: A csv (comma-separated values) file is an extension to save an Excel file. It is typically used to upload information in a quick manner vs. having to enter in information one at a time. It is important that they use the template “as is”, meaning the headers need to remain intact (that is how the system pulls the information in).

Step-by-step instructions for creating a csv file and uploading it to the platform can be found under the Tutorial tab, PAVO Classroom Set-up.

If you are using google Classroom or Canvas, we have additional how-to tutorials for your access here:

Q: Does each student require a login or only the teacher?
A: Teachers and students will each have their own logins. Once teachers set up their classes, they send a linking code to their students allowing them access to the assigned labs. Students add their responses directly to the system and teachers grade and provide feedback via a teacher dashboard.

Q: I cannot see my students in the classroom. What can I do?
A: Your students must register with PAVO to be visible in your classroom. Ensure they have signed up under the email address that appears in your CVS file.

Q: I have a new student in my classroom. Do I need to re-upload my entire class CSV file?
A: There are several ways to add another student. You can continuously update your classroom CSV file and upload with new student info or 2) upload a new csv file that has just the new student(s) listed.

Q: I have already assigned work within my classroom. Will the new students I add have access to those assignments?
A: To assure your student has the assignments you want them to work with, make sure you assign them to the correct group (column C) and use the exact same wording used for the other students. the new student will be able to access the files!

Q: I cannot see my uploaded CVS file in the student list. Where did it go?
A: In the Student List screen, there are arrows at the bottom of the student list that allows her to toggle through. If the list is long enough, you will need to click through.

Q: I have uploaded my students to PAVO. How do they see their course content?
A: You will need to create an assignment so that students can view their designated course content on their PAVO page. To create an assignment, click on the Planner tab on the left side of the screen. Then, click add assignment on the day in which you want students to be able to see their designated course content. You can adjust the start date by clicking on the calendar icon and choosing a new date, or by typing in a new date altogether. Choose which student groups or classes you wish to have complete the assignment by clicking on the group name and selecting the single arrow. Click on Create Assignment. The assignment will appear on your students’ PAVO accounts on the desired start date. For more detailed information, see our Tutorials and choose PAVO Planner.

Program Troubleshooting

Q: When I log into PAVO, my “activate” button is grayed out. How can I fix this?
A: We may not have the correct email on file within our system at Flinn Scientific. You will need to send an email to [email protected] and provide your contact information so we can get you the help you need.

Q: When I log into the program, I see “invalid role”. What does this mean?
A: With the upgraded tools in PAVO, assigning a proper role is necessary. Flinn Scientific does not sell individual licenses for teachers, but it should not be necessary! We accommodate pricing for all sizes of classrooms and the content students use is accessible in all the teacher accounts. If you have an old, individual license, please send an email to [email protected] and provide your contact information so we can get you the help you need.

Q: I am resistered within PAVO as an administrator and not a teacher, can I access the classroom?
A: Please send an email to [email protected] and provide your contact information so we can change your role within the system. We will be improving this feature soon.

Q: I am a FLINNprep customer who can no longer see my classroom. What can I do?
A: If you purchased FLINNprep as a classroom, please see the question above to activate your account. If your school purchased individual student licenses, the teacher dashboard was not included in your purchase. We understand this can be frustrating and are happy to help you use FLINNprep and PAVO. You will need to send an email to [email protected] and provide your contact information so we can get you the help you need.
