Storage:
Inorganic #9 in a dedicated acid cabinet and away from any source of water; if an acid cabinet is not available, store in a Flinn Saf-Cube™.
Disposal:
Shelf Life:
Good, but only if stored away from water and under safe conditions. Sulfuric acid has an affinity to water—abstracting it from the air and from organic substances, hence it chars wood, sugar, etc. If sulfuric acid has turned dark brown on your shelf, its purity would be in question.
Soluble:
Water, evolving very considerable heat. Use an ice bath.
Color:
Colorless
Odor:
Sulfur; sulfurous.
CAS No.:
7664-93-9
Technical Note:
Technical Note: Spilled sulfuric acid presents a very slippery floor problem. We hope you understand why it is essential to maintain a bucket of dry sand in the area where sulfuric acid is stored.
