STRUCTURES & PROPERTIES OF MATTER, continued
Flinn ̓s Exploring ChemistryTM— Introduction to Chemistry— Matter and Measurement Package
Build a solid foundation with five activities— three experiments, one demonstration and a POGILTM activity. Activities revolve around the themes of observation, measurement and classification. Includes chemicals, special- ized materials and complete instructions as well as free online video resources for three classes of 30 students working in pairs.

Density Is a Periodic Property— Super Value Kit
Introduce students to the periodic table
as they re-create the excitement that followed the prediction and discovery of missing elements. Students measure mass and volume data for silicon, tin and lead; calculate their densities; and graph the results to predict the density of germanium, the “undiscovered” element in the Group IVA family of elements. Super Value Kit is complete for 5 classes of 30 students work- ing in pairs. All materials are reusable.
Measurement and Accuracy— Super Value Lab Practical Kit
Can your students follow directions? Have them perform this classroom lab practical and find out! Simple and colorful coopera- tive classroom demonstration illustrates the importance of accurately following laboratory procedures. If the directions are followed correctly, each demonstration tube will contain the same amount of solution and a rainbow sequence of colors will be displayed.

Periodic Table Analogy—
A Card Puzzle—Super Value Kit
Students arrange a special deck of colored cards using a method of two-dimensional classification. They discover the meaning
of periodicity as their final layout reveals patterns and trends in the rows and columns. Increased learning happens as they predict the properties of missing cards, just as Mendeleev predicted the properties of “missing” elements in the periodic table more than 100 years ago.

What’s My Element? Chemistry Super Value Review Game
Review the elements and their positions on the periodic table with this fun game. Students play in pairs, with each student challenged to find out the mystery element of an opponent. The first one to discover the opponent’s mystery element by deductive reasoning is the winner. Cards in each set of 24 depict the element name, symbol, atomic number and an illus- tration of a common use of it.
