Euglenoids have proteinaceous secondary cell covering called a pellicle, and most species possess pronounced eyespots (stigma). Products of photosynthesis are stored as the glucose polymer paramylon. Euglenoids have chlorophylls a and b. This extremely active organism moves by means of a single flagellum, also making it a flagellate. Popular for behavioral studies involving responses to light, temperature and pH (taxes). Also used for vitamn B12 assay.
