Remember eating Pop Rocks®? What makes the candy crackle as it pops in your mouth? In this lab activity, students will dissolve a known mass of Pop Rocks in a tube filled with water and measure the volume of carbon dioxide gas released. The identity of the gas will also be confirmed by use of an indicator solution. Students will then use their data to calculate the mass and volume a candy manufacturer would need to produce the candy on a large scale. A fun introductory lab activity! Includes detailed background information, reproducible student worksheets with answers, comprehensive Teacher Notes and all necessary chemicals and supplies.

Complete for 30 students working in pairs.
