Chemical Reactions and Stoichiometry
Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table
Thermodynamics and Kinetics
Oxidation and Reduction
Bonding
Properties of Gases
Equilibrium Systems

The second edition of POGIL Activities for AP Chemistry builds on the first edition (2015). New activities have been added, other activities have been extensively revised, and a strong emphasis on process skills is woven through all activities. All activities in the 2nd Edition are aligned with the 2024 Curriculum and Exam Description for AP Chemistry, which is produced by the College Board. Alignment information is presented at the end of each activity, in the Teacher Resources section.

The activities’ effectiveness is enhanced by several features. Each activity has a “Teacher Resources” section, with clear learning objectives, process skill goals, prerequisites, assessment questions, and teacher tips. Within each activity, stop signs signal strategic points for pacing, checking in with the instructor, and reflection on learning through reporting out opportunities or other strategies. Key icons mark questions that directly address the learning objectives. Each activity also includes optional extension questions. These questions go beyond the stated learning objectives and help to differentiate the POGIL classroom experience for learners in the areas of work pace, need for homework or extra practice, and expanding on or applying concepts.
