In this lab experience, students standardize a sodium hydroxide solution and perform a weak acid–strong base titration to determine the concentration of an unknown vinegar sample. The 1 M sodium hydroxide solution is moderately toxic by ingestion and skin absorption. It is corrosive to body tissues and causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Do not breathe mist, vapors, or spray.
