Safety: Before conducting the lab, review the safety precautions on the student page with the class. Then discuss any safety precautions that are specific to your science laboratory or classroom. Remind students that when pressing a syringe plunger into a capped barrel, they should orient the syringe away from labmates so that if the cap pops off it does not strike someone. Also remind students to handle hot objects with tongs and to avoid contact with steam.
