Tuning Fork Activator
Make sure your tuning forks always ring true by striking
them on this hands-free rubber wedge. Activating a tuning
fork on the soft edge will make it ring at its proper resonance—
no distortion from higher harmonics. Eliminates
dings and scratches caused when tuning forks are chimed
against each other or on a tabletop. 6 cm x 3 cm.

AP6422 Tuning Fork Activator $15.86
Sympathetic and Differential Tuning Fork Set
Get a tuning fork to sing out its note without ever
touching it! Set both forks at the same frequency
with the open ends of the resonating boxes facing
each other. Excite one fork only long enough to instill
sympathetic resonance and then dampen the excited
fork. The note on the other fork continues to “ring on”
to the amazement of your students! What happens
when two tuning forks sound at different frequencies
instead of identical ones? Explore this concept by
using the adjustable weights on one of the tuning forks. Let the music begin!

AP5724 Sympathetic and Differential Tuning Fork Set $150.50
Vibrating Tube Set
Quickly and effectively demonstrate constructive and
destructive interference! One tube rings at precisely
440 Hz, the other at 441 Hz. Strike the bars with the
rubber mallet to make them both ring at the same
time. When the two nearly identical waveforms
combine, the resulting wave pattern’s frequency is
actually the difference between the two frequencies. Students will clearly hear the
ensuing “beat frequency” as the tone pulsates “on” and “off” with a frequency of 1 Hz.
Set includes both high-quality vibrating tubes, rubber mallet and instructions.

AP6417 Vibrating Tube Set $64.50
The Resonator—
Demonstration Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
In the first demonstration, four wooden dowels of various
lengths are placed in the wooden base, which is
then rocked back and forth. The different-size wooden
dowels resonate at different times as the frequency of
the back-and-forth motion of the base is varied. In the
second demonstration, dowels of different diameter are
used—varying the frequency of the back-and-forth motion
of the wooden base again causes the dowels to achieve
resonance at different times. Teacher instructions and
student worksheets provided.

AP7261 The Resonator—Demonstration Kit $41.82
Open-Ended
Resonance Tube Set
By: The Flinn Staff
A tuning fork is struck and held at the end of an open-ended
hollow resonance tube. While listening to the tuning fork,
students slide the expandable column until the tuning fork
sound is at its loudest. At this point, the air column is in
resonance with the tuning fork. The length of the tube during
resonance has a relationship to the wave frequency of the
tuning fork. Students then use their measurements to determine
the wavelength, frequency and velocity of the sound
waves. Includes tuning fork, expandable resonance tube, end tube plug, complete
background information and instructions.

AP4616 Open-Ended Resonance Tube Set $23.76
Acoustical Physics Demonstration Kit
The Ames tube is a unique acoustical device that combines a
tuning fork and a tuning fork resonator cavity. Without elaborate
bench equipment, demonstrate in uncontrolled conditions a
variety of acoustical experiments, such as mechanical acoustical
coupling, resonant cavities, sympathetic vibrations, heterodyning
and the Doppler Effect. Comes with complete instructions and a
convenient storage box.
Catalog No. Description Price/Each
AP5730 Acoustical Physics Demonstration Kit $58.00
Adjustable Tuning Fork
This single fork is essentially a seven-tone set
with physical-pitched frequencies of the C Major
scale: 128C, 144D, 160E, 170.7F, 192G, 213.3A and 240B.
Weights are easily moved into position using the
scale lines engraved on each tine. Nylon set screws
prevent scratching of the polished aluminum fork and
increase tone quality.
Catalog No. Description Price/Each
AP5723 Adjustable Tuning Fork $27.25
Tuning Fork Block
Finished blocks are 20 x 9 x 4 cm with deep-drilled holes
for up to eight tuning forks. Tuning forks are available
separately.
Catalog No. Description Price/Each
AP4598 Tuning Fork Block $13.78

Orion Science Resonance Tube
Using this resonance tube from
Orion Science, students investigate
standing sound waves in a
column of air and measure the
speed of sound. Compatible with Vernier probes.

AP10979 Orion Science Resonance Tube $376.25
Thundering Tube—
Demonstration Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Does a vibrating spring produce sounds even when they
cannot be heard? Use the Thundering Tube amplifier to find
out! Pull or shake the spring fastened to the rubber drum
attached to one end of the Thundering Tube and hear an
astonishingly realistic “rumbling” sound of thunder. As you
vary the length of the tube, students hear only the sounds that
are in resonance with the column length. Even though numerous
sound frequencies are produced, they are “silenced” until the tube length changes.
A perfect demonstration device to explain resonance, amplification and even musical
instruments. Includes complete instructions and a reproducible student worksheet.
