Brownlee
By: The Flinn Staff
Set up a complete electrolysis demonstration within
minutes! This rugged, economical electrolysis apparatus
is easy to operate and perfect for student use—simply
fill the tubes with an electrolyte solution, place them in
a battery jar or 600-mL beaker, mount the tubes, insert
the electrodes, and it’s ready to go! Comes with stainless
steel electrode pair, nonconducting support base, two
test tubes, two rubber stoppers, and detailed instructions
for use. Operates on a 9-V battery or DC power supply, not
provided. Available with or without battery jar.

Waves and Sound
Waves and Sound—
Student Laboratory Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Comprehensive kit consists of five hands-on
experiments to explore the properties of waves
and sound.
• Using springs, students study longitudinal and
transverse waves and learn about frequency,
amplitude and period.
• Observing the motion of three waves traveling
at the same speed, students see how wavelength and frequency are related.
• Using simulated point-source circles of different “wavelengths,” students investigate
constructive and destructive interference patterns.
• Experimenting with a telescoping resonance tube and tuning forks, students
determine the speed of sound in air.
• Using a variety of solid rods and tubes, students examine the variables that affect
resonance and rotate the “singing rod” to observe and understand the Doppler effect.
Easy-to-set-up lab stations allow groups to investigate specific aspects of waves
and sound then move on to the next station. Detailed instructions, Teacher Notes and
all the necessary materials are provided.
Full-size kits are complete for 30 students working in groups of 3. Small-size kits
are complete for 15 students working in groups of 3. Refill kits contain materials only.

Standing Wave Generator
By: Jeff Bracken, Westerville North H.S.,
Westerville, OH
Full-Size Kit $137.00
This inexpensive, yet reliable, standing wave generator
allows
the principles of wavelength, amplitude, nodes and antinodes to
become concrete for students. Highly visible apparatus measures
four feet in height—allowing for the study of the first, second,
third and even the fourth harmonic! Kit includes the standing
wave generator apparatus, an instruction guide with a detailed
procedure
section and an extensive background section.
Bracken’s Demonstration Spinner is required and sold
separately.

Wave Demonstrator
By: The Flinn Staff
Make waves with this 1.8-meter helical spring. Demonstrate
standing, transverse and longitudinal wave
properties.
Catalog No. Description Price/Each
AP9023 Wave Demonstrator $29.20
Wave Sticks
Wave stick models are a wonderful way to demonstrate
frequency, wavelength and amplitude of waves. In this kit,
the teacher will first demonstrate a preassembled wave stick
model and then have students construct their own wave stick
models. Students will experiment with the arrangement of the
wave sticks and the tape patterns holding them together. Once
done, they will use their models to demonstrate other wave principles. The kit materials
are reusable and include an assembled wave stick model, 400 additional wave sticks,
masking tape and complete background and instructions.

AP4618 Wave Sticks $40.65
String Vibrator
Produce standing waves at 60 Hz with this AC-powered
String Vibrator. Plug in and clamp down the String
Vibrator to a table and hold the other end of the string taut
to easily make waves. Its small size makes it quiet and
easy to store. Includes five 8-foot lengths of cotton string.
Catalog No. Description Price/Each
AP9229 String Vibrator $79.00
Simulated Double-Slit Interference Plates
See page 714.
Water Waves
Designed specifically for use on your overhead
projector. Demonstrate wave concepts or supplement
individual student work with ripple tanks. All
the wave basics—pulses, reflections, traveling waves,
waves and obstacles, and interference patterns are
clearly shown. Perfect for student presentations or for
practical classroom quiz sessions. Comes complete
with wave tray, concave parabolic reflector, convex parabolic reflector, a two-point
wave source, a multi-point wave source, foam beaches, and complete instructions.
