Pressure—Fluids, continued
Principles of Hydraulics—
Student Laboratory Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Students will measure the diameters of hydraulic pistons, calculate their areas and then
measure the forces necessary to lift specific loads. The significance of the mechanical
advantage calculation will become crystal clear to students as they personally manipulate
the hydraulic system. Students will love building a working model hydraulic jack
and measuring the forces involved in lifting heavy objects. The transparent valves and
tubing used in their lab work will allow them to view all the working parts.
Includes one complete hydraulic system, enough for one student group. Buy
multiple kits to equip an entire classroom. All materials are reusable.

Mini Hydraulic Experiment Set
Students are guided through the construction of machines and then asked to
reflect on their final product—what worked or did not work? Includes a teacher
information booklet and a 15-page student building manual. Along with detailed
illustrations, the manual includes background information about the history of
hydraulic machines. Sturdy wooden pieces are pre-cut and pre-drilled. Complete
for 30 students working in pairs.

Hydraulic Hot Water Bottle—
Multi-Demonstration Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Three fun water pressure demonstrations in one complete kit! Demonstrate why
water is stored in tall water towers. Illustrate Bernoulli’s principle as you teach about
fluid motion. Easily lift a student with the press of your thumb to demonstrate a
hydraulic jack. Finally, weigh a student by measuring the height of a water column.
Excellent hands-on demonstrations for middle school and high school level students.
Detailed instructions and background information are provided.
Notes: A tape measure is required and available separately.
