Storage Labels, Bottle
Flinn chemicals have the appropriate compatible
chemical family designation shown on the label. If you buy Flinn chemicals, you will
not need additional labels. However, if you often prepare your own solutions, these
are your labels. Self-adhesive labels are color-coded and printed on durable vinylized
paper stock. Large letter I or O designates an inorganic or organic substance, with
a separate color for each of the 11 inorganic and 10 organic families. Labels match the
color codes used on our SE4030 shelf labels. Large printing ensures brightly colored
labels can be read from a distance. Labels measure 15/8" wide x 1/2" tall.
Available in individual packages of 40 labels or in a complete set of 840 labels
containing all chemical family designations.

Label Your Chemicals
A properly labeled chemical container contains a minimum of these four items:
1. Chemical Name—Spell out the name correctly and completely. Avoid using abbreviations
or chemical
formulas.
2. Concentration—If the chemical is in solution, indicate
the solution’s molarity or
strength.
3. Chemical Hazards—List in clear terms how the chemical can hurt you and what
target organs would be affected. This information can easily be found on your SDS.
Avoid codes; use words that everyone can understand.
4. Date Prepared—Knowing the date the chemical was prepared is very important,
especially for those chemicals which either have a limited shelf life or become
more hazardous with age.
Use permanent marker; avoid using grease pencils. Write on a paper label that has a
good adhesive; avoid writing directly on the bottle. Print clearly and initial the label so
that everyone can read it and knows who prepared
it.
