Solutions—Super Value
Laboratory Kit

When should students learn how accurate concentrations of solutions are prepared?
This year! This detailed laboratory procedure walks students step-by-step through
the process of accurately preparing solutions of various concentrations. Students
must calculate how to prepare several solutions before making them and also must
calculate the resulting concentrations of solutions prepared according to given
recipes. Laboratory procedure covers preparation of stock solutions, serial dilutions
and dilutions of a given molarity. Additional practice calculations are included for
student practice or as a post-test.
Super Value Kit is complete for five classes of 30 students working in pairs.

Atomic Spectra—
Laboratory Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
In this experiment, students investigate continuous and line emission spectra from various
sources of light using a spectroscope. Students also use a spectroscope to observe
the atomic spectra of different elements in spectrum tubes and to identify the elements
that may be present in fluorescent lights, street lamps and novelty “neon” lamps.
Complete for 24 students working in pairs. Gas discharge tubes and power supplies
are required and available separately.
Catalog No. Description Price/Pkg.

Cool Light—
Student Laboratory Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Students will be amazed when they perform this chemiluminescence experiment.
They will prepare two solutions and pour them simultaneously into a
flask—producing a beautiful blue glow. An instruction sheet with a short history of
chemiluminescence is provided.
Complete for 30 students working in pairs.

Blueprint T-Shirts—
Student Laboratory Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Photosensitive T-shirts are prepared by soaking white T-shirts in a solution containing
two iron salts, ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. The next
day, when the shirts are dry, the students place opaque objects on the shirts and
then expose them to direct sunlight for about 20 minutes. UV light striking the fabric
causes a light-activated redox reaction to occur. Rinsing the T-shirt with water
removes any unreacted salts and reveals the blueprint—a sharp white imprint of the
object on a dark blue background. Includes reproducible student handouts, detailed
background information and complete Teacher Notes with answers to all questions.
Complete for 30 students working individually. White, cotton T-shirts are required
but not included.
