Ripple Tank Apparatus
Always a popular lab/demo sequence—waves in a
ripple tank! Proven method for studying numerous
wave/optics principles. This sturdy ripple tank is
made of molded plastic and features a viewing area
larger than other ripple tanks. Its bottom is made
of high-quality plate glass to ensure projection of
distortion-free wave images. Special angled foam
beaches around the perimeter of the tank greatly
reduce unwanted reflections.
The rippler unit consists of a 1.5-volt motor
mounted on a rippler bar that can generate both
straight and circular waves. The motor is equipped
with a movable counterweight for varying wave amplitude. The complete apparatus
includes four foam beaches, one light source support rod, one rippler bar with
hangers, one rippler motor, one white plastic view screen, one parabolic reflector,
one glass plate, four barriers, four detachable legs with leveling feet and complete
instructions and experiment ideas. For added versatility, an alternative wave
generator can be easily mounted. Requires a 6-V DC low-voltage power supply and a
high-power light source. Dimensions: tank surface area is 24" x 24"; tank stands 24"
H; light source support rod extends 24" above tank surface.

AP5705 Ripple Tank Apparatus $432.00
Light Source, High Power
A perfect light source for ripple tank illumination and
any other experiments requiring intense illumination.
Whether you need a point source, a line source or just
high-power illumination, this inexpensive light source is
your best bet. Orientation of the filament will give you the
point or desired line.
The included Pole Cat™ will help mount the light’s spring
clamp on a vertical pole such as a ring stand or a ripple tank
post. Light source is 150W.

AP5707 Light Source, High Power $59.65
Doppler Football—
Demonstration Kit
Score extra points with your students as you drive home
the concepts of sound wavelength and frequency with an
audible tone emitted from a foam football. After connecting
the buzzer to a 9-V battery, simply place the buzzer inside
the specially-prepared football, seal and throw! The receiver
hears a higher pitch and the passer hears a lower pitch
compared to the actual tone emitted by the buzzer. Teacher
Demonstration Notes include complete instructions, background
information, reproducible student worksheet and answers to all questions.
Note: 9-V battery is required and available separately.

AP1430 Battery, 9-V 5.65
Doppler Effect Buzzer—
Demonstration Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Easily demonstrate the Doppler effect and fundamental
principles of sounds. Tie a string to the
buzzer and spin the buzzer over your head.
Students will clearly hear the Doppler effect as
the buzzer moves toward them and then away
from them. Battery and buzzer are secure so
there is no worry of the battery disconnecting.
An optional second demonstration may be performed with a vacuum pump and bell
jar to show students that sounds do not exist in the vacuum of space. Kit includes
a reproducible student worksheet and detailed Teacher Notes with teaching tips,
instructions and background information for both demonstrations.
Note: A 9-V battery is required and available separately.

AP6856 Doppler Effect Buzzer—Demonstration Kit $23.85
AP1430 Battery, 9-V 5.65
Doppler Effect Demo, Electronic
Swing this battery-operated buzzer over
your head from its tethered string. Students
will quickly observe a significantly higher
pitch when it moves toward them and
a lower tone when it moves away. The
frequency changes will be indisputable.
The longer the string, the more dramatic
the effect! Instructions, buzzer and 3 feet of
string are provided. Requires 9-V battery, available separately.

Sound Pipe
Noise hose, singing tube, or sound pipe—whatever
you call it—you’ll have fun demonstrating the Doppler
effect while producing five different resonant tones.

Wave Generator, Adjustable Phase
Add versatility to your ripple tank. With simple adjustments
on this wave generator, you can produce circular waves
from a single point source, interference patterns from two
point sources in phase, interference patterns from two point
sources out of phase and straight waves. The long attachment
rod screws in the back of the generator and is easily
attached to a ring stand. Wave frequency can further be
varied by using a variable DC power supply or by using an
external rheostat. Operation requires a low voltage power supply that outputs 0–6 V
DC (available separately). Comes complete with instructions.

AP5706 Wave Generator, Adjustable Phase $93.55
Boom Whackers
Simply bang the tube on a knee or on the floor
and you will hear a note from the C major
diatonic scale—the longer the tube, the lower
the note. Each tube is color-coded and labeled
with the proper musical note. Use with tuning
forks to demonstrate how wonderfully tuned
these tubes are. An E-note tuning fork, for example,
will not resonate in a D-note Boom Whacker.
Composed of soft plastic that is rugged and safe. Set includes 8 tubes.
