Wisconsin Fast Plants®
Grow complete plants in 28–30 days! Fast Plants® (Brassica rapa) are rapid-cycling
plants closely related to cabbage, turnips, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables.
Over the course of 30 years, Dr. Paul H. Williams (University of Wisconsin–Madison)
successfully bred a type of wild Brassica by artificially selecting and breeding plants
with certain traits. Growing Fast Plants is easy—all you need is continuous fluorescent
light, water and fertilizer. Because these plants have been artificially selected,
there are many controls built in to the plants that make them perfect for research in
genetics, host-parasite relations, molecular biology, cell biology, plant biochemistry,
population biology and plant breeding. Package of 200 seeds. Variable for expression
of purple pigment in stems.
Catalog No. Description Price/Pkg.
FB2044 Wisconsin Fast Plants® $46.50

Lichen Set—3 Types
Most often mistaken for plants, lichens actually represent complex symbiotic associations
between algal and fungal species. Notable as pioneer species in the process
of ecological succession and as residents of environments that few other organisms
can tolerate. Although they seem to thrive under inhospitable conditions, lichens are
highly susceptible to pollution and are often seen as natural indicators of air quality.
Set includes examples of the three most common morphological types of lichens:
foliose, crustose and fruticose. Species vary.

Plants—Living, Aquatic
Aquatic Plants
Healthy, viable plants ready for transplant into your freshwater aquarium or for laboratory
study. With the exception of Lemna, aquarium plants are shipped moist-pack
in plastic bags. Package sizes indicate number of stems supplied. Lemna is shipped
in a two-ounce polystyrene jar.
★MAINTENANCE: Do not release aquatic plants into local environments. Upon receipt, rinse plants
under gently flowing tap water to remove the majority of bacteria and other contaminants. Remove any
dead or discolored leaves. Rooted plants require approximately two inches of coarse sand or aquarium
gravel. Plants will do best if the aquarium has been operating at least 4–6 weeks. During this time chemical
cycles equilibrate and necessary nutrients accumulate in the water and in the gravel. When ready
to transplant, scoop a shallow depression in the substrate and arrange the plant’s roots loosely in the
depression. Refill the depression with surrounding gravel such that the plant’s root crown is level with
the gravel surface. Arrange plants eight to ten centimeters apart with taller plants toward the rear of the
tank. Remember to allow the plants—and their roots—room to grow.
